Abstract

We give the closed-form solution of cross-spectral density matrix of a partially coherent beam propagating through the anisotropic atmosphere turbulence along the horizontal link, and investigate the effects of turbulence and source parameters on the polarization state of beams on propagation. The results show that we can improve the performance of wireless optical communication systems with polarization modulation and polarization multiplexing methods by decreasing wavelength or increasing source size. The characteristic that polarization state of beams is uniquely determined by anisotropic turbulence after a sufficiently long propagation distance is also verified.
