Abstract

We have extended our previously developed model for the transient effects during photorefractive two-wave mixing, by taking into consideration the position- dependence of the dielectric permittivity in Poisson’s equation, to cover the situations in which strong electric fields are applied to crystals with large electro-optic coefficients. The more general analytical solutions of the space-charge field and the two recording intensities have been derived for both transient and steady states. The extended model has been demonstrated and compared with the previous one by using barium titanate (BaTiO3) as a specific material, with a set of parameters whose values are based on the data reported in the literature. Some related effects have been discussed.
