Abstract
The gaseous Raman amplifier appears to offer a number of advantages as a high-power laser medium. In particular its ability to amplify beams of high optical quality when pumped with a number of poorer quality beams makes it an ideal output stage for high-power KrF lasers using optical multiplexing for pulse shortening.
