Abstract

Dispersion managed solitons are a new nonlinear propagation pulse format with remarkable properties. In single channels researchers have generated long distance propagation at high bit rates, up to 14,000 km at 20 Gbit/s1 and up to 24,500 km at 10 Gbit/s2 without any of the frequency sliding techniques that have been necessary for standard soliton systems.
