Projection of freely designed images by integrable phase-modulating surface-emitting lasers

Abstract

We demonstrate semiconductor lasers which emit freely designed images directly without any optical elements or scanners. We introduce holographic modulation in a square lattice photonic crystal. The fabricated devices are on-chip-sized and suitable for integration.
