Optical Microcavities: Label-free Detection Down to Single Virus Particles

Abstract

Binding of Influenza A virus particles is detected from the frequency shift of a microsphere cavity. To overcome limitations posed by diffusion, transport of nanoparticles to the sensing region is enhanced by optical gradient forces.
