Abstract

There have been a number of papers comparing different ways of upgrading transmission system capacities and, in particular, the cost of OC-192 (10 Gb/s) transmission systems versus wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) systems using multiple wavelengths at OC-48 (2.5 Gb/s) rates (e.g., [1-3]).
