Abstract
Carrier-envelope phase (CEP) is a powerful knob to steer interactions of laser light with matter in the strong-field regime, as evidenced by numerous studies of ultrafast electron dynamics in atomic, molecular and solid-state media. In the future, the CEP could be the carrier of digital information in petahertz technology [1]. For example, PHz multiplexing could be achieved by encoding information into CEP spatial maps. In addition, characterizing and controlling CEP in space will enable the scaling up of attosecond experiments [2] and the investigation of the collective behavior of extensive systems [3].
