Local second-harmonic generation at metal tips by femtosecond pulse irradiation

A highly-efficient nanometric source of second harmonic light is obtained by grazing-incidence illumination of a metal tip with high-energy 25-fs pulses of a Ti: sapphire oscillator. Polarization dependence complies with a nonlinear oscillating dipole model.
