Abstract
Variable focus may be achieved without mechanical motion if a liquid ciystal display shutter is made to scan across a plane behind a freeform progressive lens. Hence, the use of two shuttem would yield a stereoscopic machine vision and ranging system without any moving parts. Simple optical designs are explored and presented for such lens systems.
