Observation of subluminal and superluminal regimes in coupled mode optical propagation

Attraction and repulsion of coupled modes with swinging subluminal and superluminal group velocity is directly observed, for the first time, at optical frequencies. The measurement technique combines polarization-sensitive low-coherence interferometry with lighttrapping in a ring-resonator.
