Parametric Amplification in Optical Fiber

Abstract

Fiber parametric amplifiers have demonstrated high gain with a very wide and flat bandwidth. Of great interest is their usefulness in such optical processing tasks as frequency shifting, phase conjugation, reshaping, switching, demultiplexing and sampling. We discuss the underlying physics, practical aspects and applications of parametric devices in optical fiber.
