Abstract

We proposed an ultra-wide range chromatic dispersion (CD) measurement method using coherent detection and digital signal processing. We measured the average phase at frequency ± f as a function of frequency f, and estimated the total accumulated CD with polynomial fitting algorithm. The method is compatible with modern coherent optical networks and capable of measuring CD of at least ± 16000 ps/nm with an accuracy of better than ± 50 ps/nm.
