Optimal Port Grouping for Maximal Router Card Sleeping

Abstract

To save energy consumption of IP over WDM networks, we develop an MILP model and an efficient heuristic to properly group router ports so as to maximally sleep router cards. Results indicate that the proposed card-based sleeping strategy can save up to 30% energy consumption.
