A silicon hybrid (de)multiplexer with 64 channels to enable wavelength- and mode-division multiplexing simultaneously is proposed and demonstrated for the first time. The hybrid (de)multiplexer has a 4-channel mode demultiplexer and four 16-channel arrayed-waveguide gratings.
