Physics of Si based Avalanche Detectors With Built-In Self-Quenching and Self-Recovering Capabilities

Abstract

A silicon based single photon avalanche detector with a transient carrier buffer layer was designed. The buffer layer as an energy barrier tentatively stops avalanche-generated carriers. The device demonstrates self-quenching and self-recovering capabilities.
