Components that Enable Space Division Multiplexing

The success of spatial multiplexing depends on highly integrated and cost effective devices and components. We compare the strengths and weaknesses of SDM components including silicon photonics, 3D waveguides, all-fiber mode-multiplexers, and bulk-optics wavelength selective switches and gain equalizers.
