Applications of Self-Seeded Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers in Access Networks and Beyond

Abstract

Recent research in the self-seeded RSOA is reviewed. We show that (a) large improvements in transmission capacity and reach have been achieved since the first proposal, and (b) its role as a colorless source in PON has evolved, extending into the metro, local area, and mobile segments.
