Enhanced self-phase modulation in silicon suspended membrane waveguides

Abstract

We experimentally compared the self-phase modulation (SPM) in conventional silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguides and silicon suspended membrane waveguides (SMWs) by measuring the spectral broadening of optical pulses. Enhanced SPM was observed in SMWs.
