Abstract

Silicon waveguide with a patterned single-layer graphene (SLG) is fabricated and characterized. Saturable absorption with a large 25% modulation depth introduced by the in-plane graphene is experimentally observed, which is potentially applicable for future chip-sized mode-locking lasers.
