Tailoring the GVD of hollow core slotted silicon photonic crystal waveguides for hybrid integration of soft materials

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate that soft materials can be incorporated in silicon slot photonic crystal waveguides and hence can benefit from both slow-light field enhancement effect and slot-induced ultra-small effective areas. We show that their frequency dispersion properties can be tailored with a nearly on-demand ultra-flat band, normal or anomalous dispersion in the near infrared around λ=1570 nm with Normalized Delay Bandwidth Product as high as 0.173.
