Performance Improvement of Lithium Niobate High Extinction Ratio Modulators by Means of Photorefractive Trimming

Abstract

A local micro-size change of refractive index due to photorefractive effect was effectively used for the extinction ratio improvement of a Mach-Zehnder lithium niobate modulator. The extinction ratio increase of 17 dB was demonstrated.
