Abstract

In this paper, a joint communication and ranging system based on chaotic light is proposed. Due to the noise-like waveform and δ-function self-correlation curve, the secure communication and target detection and location can be integrated in one device using the chaotic light. The architecture of the proposed system is designed, and the performance of communication and ranging is numerically investigated. The results show that the secure communication and target location can be simultaneously achieved with the proposed system. Meanwhile, the amplitude and the data rate of the communication signal hidden in the chaotic carrier, the echo power and the feedback strength will not influence the accuracy and precision of the target ranging.
