Lightness Constancy and Adaptation to Illumination Varying as a Temporal Sinusoid

Abstract

To evaluate the time course of adaptation processes affecting lightness constancy judgments, two subjects performed lightness discriminations between two similar suprathreshold simulated achromatic surfaces while a simulated achromatic illumination varied as a temporal sinusoid with periods varying from 0.7 to 120 sec.
