Abstract

The adaptive optics (AO) project at the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) is sponsored by a consortium of Australian universities and the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) and funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC). The program has two objectives: 1. to prove the usefulness of adaptive optics at the AAT site, and 2. to rapidly implement an adaptive system, providing a scientifically valuable gain in the resolution and efficiency of the telescope.
