A Study on the Gradient Refraction Index Effect of the Firefly’s Ommatidium

Abstract

We found the configuration of the 190 parabolic layers of the firefly’s ommatidium are composed of alternate structures with only two periodic refractive indices. The GRIN waveguide is also revealed by the proposed configuration.
