Abstract

A novel technique based on an optical multi-mode frequency domain reflectometer, is used for measuring the optical distances. The proposed system comprises of a free-running multi-mode laser diode, an optical spectrometer and a computing system. The proposed highly sensitive reflectometer is capable of measuring distances with high resolution and does not contain moving parts as in low coherence interferometry based on the Michclson's interferometer.
