Peculiarities of Optical Formation and Filtering the Images of 3D Objects in Coherent Light

Abstract

Application of classical optical dimensional methods based on shadow (projecting) image model for 3D bodies, in practice, can bring out to the significant errors. Since the existing strict and approximate solutions for diffraction and image problems of 3D bodies are extremely difficult for engineering applications, author previously suggested constructive method for their calculation which is simple physically obvious and sufficiently accurate. It is based on the model of equivalent diaphragms according to which the problem of light diffraction on 3D bodies is reduced to the calculation of diffraction phenomena on the plane objects (of zero thickness) located in space in Kirchhoff-Fresnel approximation. This method was developed analytically for study the formation and high-frequency filtering (contouring) of typical element of 3D objects like extended symmetric edge with perfectly absorbing and reflecting inner surfaces. The obtained theoretical results are provided by the optical experiments.
