Abstract
The Come-On-Plus system described in this paper is an upgraded version of the VLT adaptive optics1 prototype system Come-On2. It will be set up on the ESO 3.6m telescope during summer of 1992. The project is a collaboration between ONERA, Observatoire de Paris, Laserdot, LEP and ESO. The modifications will enhance the performance of the previous instrument3 • a better correction capability of the mirror: the previous 19 actuator deformable mirror will be replaced by a 52 actuator deformable mirror, • a better detectivity of the wavefront sensor (WFS) for very faint reference sources, • an additional wavefront sensor for bright reference sources, • an extended bandwidth of the servo loop: the wavefront sensor 400 Hz sampling rate will allow to extend the correction bandwidth to 30 Hz (compared to 9 Hz for the current system), • a new control algorithm applying mode selection dedicated to astronomical applications.
