Abstract
Phakometry is a technique used to good effect for determining the position and parameters of the optical elements in the human eye. Reflections from the optical surfaces are recorded by camera with respect to the pupil centre, and their positions indicate the travel of the illumination beam. However, the reflections from the inner surfaces are weaker, since diffraction begins to destroy the beam shape, and the return beam suffers further diffraction and absorption exiting the eye. Using Bessel beams as the illumination source allows for tighter beam control and hence brighter and more compact reflections from the internal surfaces.
