Effects of aberrations and specimen structure in confocal and two-photon microscopy

Abstract

A little known consequence of aberrations is the effect on image contrast of different specimen structures. We have modelled and observed the variation in intensity for different structures and the reduction in contrast of small objects within a large background signal.
