Abstract
We study the photorefractive properties of nominally undoped LiTaO3 crystals in the near ultraviolet. Crystals with nearly stoichiometric composition grown by the double crucible Czochralski method exhibit enhanced two-wave mixing gain, larger photoconductivity, faster response, and a drastically reduced photogalvanic field as compared to congruently grown crystals.
