Ti3+ in Fluoride Crystals

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In general, Ti3+ is more easily incorporated in fluoride crystals than in oxide crystals. The characteristic absorption and emission of Ti3+ has been observed in both K2NaScF6 and SrAlF5, Compared to Al2O3 the spectra are, as expected, red shifted. At cryogenic temperatures the fluorescent quantum efficiency is high and the fluorescent lifetime is appreciably longer than in Al2O3. At room temperature the emission is almost completely quenched in the crystals studied so far.
