Abstract
We report pulsed operation of a tunable color center laser based on the F2+ defect in NaCl. The laser has produced output energies exceeding 8 mJ in 20 nsec pulses. These energies are 4 times greater than those generated by previously reported pulsed color center lasers.1 More significantly, this performance has been achieved with a room temperature crystal. The laser has been operated for up to 40 hours but displays a fading of output power with time.
