Abstract
We have carried out a series of experiments on a ring cavity Ti:A12O3 laser*, shown schematically in Figure 1; this design is similar to a ring dye laser cavity. An argon ion laser pumps a four-mirror ring containing the laser crystal, a Lyot filter, a thin etalon, and a Faraday rotator/compensator. The peak output power using a commercially available 3-5% output coupler is 300 mW at 800 nm when pumping with 7 W from the argon ion laser. The laser threshold was 3.6 W of blue-green giving a slope efficiency of 9%. The single-frequency laser tunes between 740 and 840 nm.
