Abstract
Titanium-doped sapphire (Ti:Al2O3) is a promising, new solid-state tunable laser material. The emission for this material spans from 680 nm to 1100 nm, peaking at 800 nm. The very large peak cross section and absence of excited state absorption in Ti:Al2O3, and the availability of convenient pump sources should lead to the development of efficient lasers. The problem which has hindered development of Ti:Al2O3 lasers is the broad parasitic absorption in the lasing wavelength.1
