Continuous wave 1600 nm laser action in Er-doped garnets at room-temperature

Abstract

Lasers near 1600 nm are interesting devices for testing optical transmission properties of fibers. The rare earth ion Er3+ offers those wavelengths when operating the 4I13/24I15/2 ground state transition.
