Abstract

For the first time the nanosecond kinetics of luminescence decay from high-lying strongly quenched levels of the Ns3+ - ion in LaF3, SrF2, CaF2, and LiYF4. laser crystals versus energy gap (ΔE), temperature, and concentration was measured by direct nanosecond laser excitation as well as direct recording of luminescence by a statistical single-photon counting technique with a time resolution of up to 0.3ns.
