The codoped system LiYF4 :Tm, Ho was recently proposed as a mid infrared diode-pumped solid state laser operating at 2 and 2.3 μm /l/ because recent progress make an attractive alternative to lamp-pumped operation and also because a very good spectral match exists between the GaAlAs diode emission and the Tm3+ absorption near 795 nm.
