Abstract

Many aspects of crystal growth of rare-earth scandium garnets (RESG) for solid-state lasers are closely connected with peculiarities of the nature of scandium garnets. The paper considers the nonstoichiometry of RESG, the components and dopants mutual relations, role of chromium insertion, as well as principal differences between ScGa- and ScAl- garnets resulting in growth and crystallized composition.
