Abstract

As mode lockers of Nd lasers, LiF:F2 crystals have been used in three different situations: 1- by using LiF:F2 saturated absorption in long resonators mode locking of Nd:Glass and Nd:YAG lasers have been reported [1,2]; 2- by using a combination of F2 and modified F2 color centers with a very short decay time, stable mode locking was obtained but with low energy efficiency [3]; 3- by using a coupled cavity scheme in the transversal direction where oscillation of the F color centers is also achieved, simultaneous Q-switched and mode locked pulses but due to the poor overlapping of both beams this scheme works only for very high power systems [4].
