Abstract
We demonstrate that a holmium laser amplifier is capable of high gain and high energy operation at 300K. Small signal gain coefficients g0 of 0.50 and 0.12 cm-1 have been measured in YLF and YAG respectively. The maximum energy achieved was 240 mJ output for 38.5 mJ of input energy for a large gain of 6.2 in YLF.
