Abstract

Experiments have been conducted with an Er:Yb:glass rod pumped transversely with a single InGaAs strained-layer laser diode bar emitting at 950 nm. Direct coupling as well as microlens coupling of the pumping beam to the gain medium have been tested. A 14.7 % slope efficiency has been achieved in fixed-Q operation, with the threshold occurring at 74 mJ of input energy. The output pulse energy at 1.53 μm reached a maximum of 20 mJ at an incident pumping energy of 210 mJ.
