Abstract

An important candidate for diode laser pumped 2 μm solid state laser is based on the transition of 5I7 -> 5I8 in Ho3+, sensitized by Tm3+. In order to predict the temporal behavior of the laser, the rate coefficients of energy transfer processes among Tm3+ and Ho3+ have been determined from spectroscopic data using a rate equation model. This method has been used in YAG, LuAG, YSAG and YLF materials. The results on YAG will be presented here.
