Abstract
A new scalable side-pumping geometry of multi-LD-arrays for solid state lasers has been developed in order to achieve the Gaussian gain distribution around the center of an optically thin rod. This geometry allows the mode matching as well as the end pumping geometry. Optically thin lasers have a great potential to extend the output power significantly from the view of pumping and cooling scaling law.
