Abstract
In the past five years, Ti doped sapphire has become the laser medium of choice for the generation of tunable, modelocked laser pulses in the picosecond (ps) and femtosecond (fs) time domains for experimental probes of ultrafast phenomena in physics and chemistry. When combined with harmonic and parametric frequency conversion, these devices can supply tunable, transform limited pulses of a few tens of femtoseconds duration from near vacuum ultraviolet to mid-infrared wavelengths.
