Abstract

Ce3+:LuLiF4 is shown to have a broad gain spectrum, which is attractive for short pulse applications. Sufficient small signal gain over 6 dB/cm was observed. Furthermore in a confocal 4-pass amplifier configuration, the gain can be enhanced to 20- dB for a cw He-Cd laser light and 17-dB for picosecond pulses.
