Abstract
Passively or actively mode-locked Er3+:Cr3+:YSGG -1aser pulses (λ=2.8 μm) were used to pump travelling-wave ZnGeP2 or GaSe optical parametric generators (OPG) to produce Megawatt pulses in type-I and type-II phase matching. The tunability achieved was 3.9..10 μm (ZnGeP2 type I and II), 3.4..18 μm (GaSe type I) and 3.9..10 μm (GaSe type II). In both nonlinear crystals type I phase matching was characterised by much broader linewidths. For a 40 mm long ZnGeP2 crystal the OPG pump threshold was found to be 0.09 GW/cm2 - the smallest reported value for travelling wave OPGs.
