Passive Q-Switching of Infrared Lasers with Multiple Quantum Wells

Abstract

Passive Q-switching of Er:glass and Ho:YLF lasers utilising the saturable absorption properties of multiple quantum wells has been demonstrated. Pulses as short as 15 ns were obtained. The limits imposed by optical damage and device quality are discussed.
