Abstract

Lasers operating in the mid and long infrared spectrum are finding applications in the countermeasure as well remote sensing fields due to the atmospheric transmission windows between 3-5 um and 8-12 um1. Compact, lightweight, efficient systems are being developed for applications where CO2 sources have been the mainstay. With the advent of all solid state diode laser pumped Holmium lasers, providing high peak powers, new non-linear optical (NLO) materials are allowing the shifting of these sources to generate multi-watt outputs2 over new spectral regions.
